EMDR intensives in Florida offer an extended format for adults who want focused time to work on specific traumatic experiences, distressing memories, or patterns that continue to affect their lives. Instead of limiting the work to a traditional therapy hour, an intensive gives us more time for preparation, EMDR processing, breaks, and integration within the same appointment.
What Are EMDR Intensives in Florida?
An EMDR intensive is an extended therapy session designed to provide more uninterrupted time for focused EMDR work. Rather than stopping after a traditional session, we have additional time to prepare, process, take breaks when needed, and continue working with the material that comes up.
Intensives can be especially useful when you have a specific experience, memory, trigger, or treatment goal you want to address with more concentrated time.
Who Might Benefit From an EMDR Intensive?
EMDR intensives in Florida may be worth considering if you:
- Have a specific traumatic or distressing experience you want to address
- Feel that traditional sessions end just as you are getting into the work
- Want dedicated time to focus on a particular treatment goal
- Have a demanding schedule that makes frequent weekly appointments difficult
- Prefer concentrated therapeutic work followed by time for integration
- Have already done therapy but feel there is a specific experience or pattern that remains unresolved
- Want to explore whether a more focused EMDR format fits your needs and goals

EMDR Intensive Packages
EMDR intensives can be customized based on your treatment goals, schedule, and the amount of focused time that makes sense for you. This format provides a structured treatment experience rather than simply a longer therapy session. Each intensive includes preparation, focused EMDR processing, and follow-up integration so we have time to plan the work carefully and evaluate what you may need afterward.
Focused Intensive — 3 Hours
One 3-hour EMDR intensive for a specific experience, memory, trigger, or focused treatment goal.
Extended Intensive — 6 Hours
Six hours of focused EMDR treatment completed as either:
One full day: Two 3-hour blocks with a lunch break in between.
Two-day format: One 3-hour intensive on each of two separate days.
Three-Day Intensive — 9 Hours
Three 3-hour intensive sessions scheduled across three days. This provides additional processing time for clients whose treatment goals may require more than one or two extended sessions.
Customized Multi-Day Intensive
For more complex or extensive treatment goals, we can develop a customized intensive schedule using multiple 3-hour treatment blocks. The number and timing of sessions are determined during the preparation process rather than assuming a predetermined amount of treatment.
Every Intensive Includes:
- Pre-intensive assessment and preparation
- Individualized treatment planning
- Extended EMDR processing time
- Breaks as clinically appropriate
- Closure and grounding at the end of intensive sessions
- Post-intensive integration/follow-up

What Happens Before an EMDR Intensive?
Before the intensive, we meet for an assessment and preparation session. This gives us time to understand what you want to work on, review relevant history, identify potential targets for EMDR, and make sure you have strategies for staying grounded during the intensive.
We also discuss what to expect, answer your questions, and develop an individualized treatment plan so you arrive knowing how the intensive will be structured.
What Happens After an EMDR Intensive?
After the intensive, you may continue noticing thoughts, emotions, memories, dreams, or new insights as your brain continues processing the work. We will discuss what you may notice and how to support yourself between the intensive and your follow-up session.
Your post-intensive integration session gives us time to review what has changed, identify anything that still needs attention, and discuss next steps. This may include additional EMDR work, returning to regular therapy, or allowing time for continued integration.
Are EMDR Intensives Right for Everyone?
EMDR intensives are not automatically the best format for every person or every concern. Before scheduling an intensive, we consider your treatment goals, current symptoms, relevant history, coping resources, and ability to remain regulated during extended processing.
If another approach would better support your needs, we can discuss standard EMDR sessions or other treatment options.
Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Intensives
Do I Need to Be in Weekly Therapy to Schedule an EMDR Intensive?
No. You do not have to be an established weekly therapy client to inquire about an EMDR intensive. The pre-intensive assessment helps us determine whether this format is appropriate for you and what preparation may be needed before beginning intensive EMDR work.
How Much Can We Accomplish During an EMDR Intensive?
There is no set amount of trauma or number of memories that can be processed within a specific number of hours. Everyone responds to EMDR differently, and some experiences require more processing time than others.
We establish focused treatment goals before the intensive and work at a pace that supports effective processing without treating the session like something you need to “finish” within a certain amount of time.
Will I Have to Talk About Every Detail of What Happened?
No. EMDR does not require you to describe every detail of a traumatic or distressing experience out loud. We need enough information to understand what we are targeting and guide the process, but you remain in control of what you choose to share.
The focus is on helping your brain process what remains unresolved rather than requiring you to repeatedly retell the entire experience.
Can EMDR Intensives Be Done Online?
Yes. We provide EMDR intensives through secure telehealth to adults located in Florida. We can adapt bilateral stimulation for online sessions using methods such as guided eye movements or alternating tapping.
Because intensive sessions are longer than standard therapy appointments, we will also discuss your privacy, physical environment, technology, and plans for breaks before the intensive begins.
Can I Split My EMDR Intensive Across Multiple Days?
Yes. The 6-hour Extended Intensive can be completed as one full day with a lunch break or divided into two 3-hour sessions. The 9-hour Three-Day Intensive is completed as three 3-hour sessions.
We will determine the schedule during preparation based on your treatment goals, availability, and the structure that makes the most sense for your intensive.
Ready to Explore an EMDR Intensive?
You do not have to know which intensive format is right for you before reaching out. We can discuss what you want to work on, answer your questions, and determine whether an EMDR intensive fits your needs and goals.
